Follow Friday: Stillness That Cannot Be Stolen
Follow Friday invites you into divine stillness -grounded to the earth God made, rooted in unshakable faith, and no longer tolerating fake love or copycat favor. Even if everyone else wears a mask, you can follow Jesus in truth and live abundantly from the inside out.
“Divine stillness is where God reminds you nothing and no one can counterfeit what He placed in you.”
Beautiful Souls, that is the whisper for this Follow Friday. When I look back over my life, I see a long pattern of people trying to shape, control, and even rewrite my story - family, friends, coworkers, and whole communities who were supposed to love me but instead manipulated, betrayed, and tried to profit off of the favor on my life. There comes a point where you realize this is bigger than mere coincidence. It takes a rare kind of light to make that many people feel threatened enough to move against you. And yet, even here, Jesus keeps inviting me into divine stillness, unshakable faith, and a deeper following that has nothing to do with the crowd.
Following Jesus Into Divine Stillness
The world tells you that following means chasing - chasing status, relationships, applause, and a curated image. Jesus invites you to something quieter and far more powerful: stillness in His presence. “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
This kind of stillness is not passive. It is you choosing to sit in God’s presence, plant your feet on the ground He made, breathe, and remember:
- He is your refuge when people misrepresent you.
- He is your strength when you feel drained by other people’s schemes.
- He is your anchor when the story around you keeps shifting.
Like a tree rooted by water, you can stay grounded no matter what storm is hitting the branches. “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord… They will be like a tree planted by the water… It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7–8 (NIV)
You Can’t Fake God’s Favor
We live in a world full of copycats - people willing to lie, cheat, and steal from the very ones they should love, trying to grab the appearance of favor without the character to carry it. But you cannot fake what God has truly anointed. A false witness “will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will not escape.”
Proverbs 19:5 (ESV)
Following Jesus in everyday life means you stop obsessing over who copied your ideas, stole your opportunities, or sabotaged your name. You bring your pain to God, tell Him the truth, and let Him handle the parts you cannot see. Joseph lived this out when his own brothers betrayed him (just like my sister Mindy betrayed me - it will come to light), sold him, and then had to watch God still exalt him. He could look back and say, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.”
Genesis 50:20 (NIV)
No counterfeit favor can outrun real anointing. People can imitate your style, steal your words, or mimic your calling - but they cannot replicate your obedience or your history with God (or your lived story).
Standing Alone In Truth
When manipulation and betrayal come from every direction - family, friends, coworkers, even your community - it is tempting to think something is wrong with you. But sometimes it’s confirmation of how strong your spirit truly is. Scripture is full of people who had to stand almost completely alone. Paul said, “At my first defense, no one came to my support… But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength.”
2 Timothy 4:16–17 (NIV)
Following Jesus may mean you stop entertaining fake connections altogether. You choose being alone with God over being surrounded by people who will sell you out for convenience or clout. You decide you would rather be single and celibate than share your body, your energy, and your calling with someone who lies, manipulates, or secretly resents the favor on your life. That’s not bitterness - that’s holy self-respect rooted in truth.
Jesus Himself warned that loyalty to Him would sometimes divide even families: “A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.”
Matthew 10:36 (NIV)
So if you feel that tension, you’re not crazy; you’re walking a road He already described.
Abundance Starts On The Inside
The world keeps screaming that a blessed life looks like luxury, constant companionship, and visible success. But Jesus measures abundance differently. He said, “The kingdom of God is within you.”
Luke 17:21 (KJV)
Real abundance is when you can sit in silence with God, feel your feet on the ground He made, breathe deeply, and know you are safe, loved, and clean before Him - even if nobody is clapping. It is an inner frequency of peace that no amount of gossip, betrayal, or slander can touch. “The Lord is my light and my salvation -whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 27:1 (NIV)
You follow Jesus in everyday moments when you:
- Choose stillness over frantic reacting.
- Tell the truth when lying would be easier.
- Walk away from fake love, even if it means sleeping alone.
- Let your worth come from God’s gaze, not from the people who couldn’t see you clearly.
A Prayer For Follow Friday
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for being my still point
in a world that has tried
to shake me from every side.
You know every betrayal -
family, friends, coworkers,
and the communities that
should have protected me.
You see how many times
people tried to copy, control,
or steal what You placed in me.
Thank You that my anointing
comes from You alone
and cannot be faked or taken.
Today I choose divine stillness.
Plant my feet firmly
on this earth You created
and root my heart deeply in You.
Teach me to follow You
even if I have to walk alone.
Guard my body, my mind,
and my spirit from counterfeit love.
Give me courage to say no
to anyone who would lie, manipulate,
or use me for their gain.
Fill me with an abundance
that starts on the inside -
peace that stays,
truth that grounds me,
and faith that cannot be shaken
by what people do or say.
I release my need
to be understood by everyone
and ask only
to be known by You
and to walk closely with You
in every ordinary moment.
In Your name, Jesus,
Amen.
Follow Friday whisper to carry with you:
“You don’t need crowds, copycats, or counterfeit love to prove you are anointed. Follow Me into stillness, stand in truth, and I will make your inner life richer than anything this world can offer.”
With truth, courage, and grace,
Eugene 💘
