Follow Friday: What Following Peace Has Taught Me
Following peace does not mean avoiding hard things - it means refusing to lose yourself while navigating them. A personal Follow Friday reflection on boundaries, discernment, God’s guidance, and taking the next faithful step.
Beautiful souls,
not every path that calls your name is meant to carry your footsteps.
By the time Friday arrives, we have heard a hundred voices competing for our attention. There are the loud voices outside of us - the expectations, opinions, urgency, and pressure to respond. Then there are the voices inside of us: the questions we cannot stop replaying, the memories that still ache, and the desire for clarity from people who never offered it.
But I am learning that following God does not always mean receiving the entire map.
Sometimes, it means listening closely enough to take the next faithful step.
Sometimes, it means choosing the peace that lets you stay whole.
What I Used to Follow
There was a time when I followed confusion as though it were a calling.
If I did not understand why something shifted, I would revisit it in my mind. I would look at every conversation, every silence, every change in energy, and try to find the one missing piece that would finally make it all make sense.
I thought that if I thought about it long enough, loved hard enough, stayed open long enough, or explained myself clearly enough, confusion would eventually turn into clarity.
But I have learned that not every unanswered question is an invitation to keep searching.
Sometimes it is an invitation to pause.
Sometimes it is an invitation to observe.
Sometimes it is an invitation to bring your heart back to God before you hand it back to the same situation that wounded it.
I am not saying that pain does not deserve to be felt. It does.
I am not saying we should avoid difficult conversations, ignore red flags, or pretend that harm did not happen. We should not.
But I am learning the difference between seeking truth and chasing what another person is unwilling to make plain.
One brings you closer to peace.
The other can slowly pull you away from yourself.
Peace Is Not Passivity
For a long time, I thought peace meant that everything had to feel settled before I could move forward.
I thought I needed the apology, the explanation, the proof, the repaired relationship, or the perfect ending.
But peace is not always the reward that arrives after everyone else does the right thing.
Sometimes peace is the decision you make before they do.
Peace can look like a boundary.
Peace can look like a delayed response.
Peace can look like not replying at all.
Peace can look like admitting, This hurts, but I do not have to keep reopening the wound to prove that it hurt.
Peace is not pretending you do not care.
It is caring about yourself enough to stop offering your energy to what keeps your spirit unsettled.
“I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants - but let them not turn to folly.”
- Psalm 85:8 NIV
God promises peace, but this Scripture also reminds us that listening matters.
To follow peace, I have had to become more honest about the voices I have been listening to.
Was I listening to fear?
Was I listening to pride?
Was I listening to the part of me that wanted an answer more than it wanted to be free?
Or was I listening for God’s voice - the voice that does not shame me, rush me, confuse me, or ask me to lose myself just to keep a connection alive?
Confusion Is Information
One of the most important lessons I have learned is that confusion is not always a sign that I need to try harder.
Sometimes it is information.
It may be a signal to pray before reacting.
It may be a signal to slow down and pay attention to what my spirit has already been sensing.
It may be a signal that I am trying to pull clarity from a person or place that is committed to remaining unclear.
I have learned to stop treating every mixed signal like a puzzle God assigned me to solve.
God is not the author of confusion.
He is a God of truth, wisdom, and steady direction.
“Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.”
- Proverbs 4:26 NIV
Giving careful thought to my path has required me to stop following what is merely familiar.
Sometimes what feels familiar is not what is healthy.
Sometimes the old version of us is drawn to chaos because we have spent so long trying to survive it.
But healing teaches us another way.
We can choose the path that feels clear.
We can choose the people who communicate with care.
We can choose the pace that lets our nervous system breathe.
We can choose the next step that does not require us to betray our values, our truth, or our peace.
I Can Care Without Chasing
This lesson has been deeply personal for me: I can care deeply without chasing people.
I can love someone and still accept what their actions have revealed.
I can grieve what I hoped a connection would become without chasing it until I lose my own center.
I can pray for people without giving them unlimited access to my heart.
That is not bitterness.
That is wisdom.
That is honoring the healing God is doing in me.
There is a kind of freedom that comes when we realize we do not need another person’s honesty in order to remain honest with ourselves. We do not need every explanation in order to accept what we experienced. We do not need closure handed to us in a neat, pretty package before we are allowed to walk forward.
Sometimes closure is simply recognizing that God has been showing you enough to take the next step.
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”
- Isaiah 30:21 NIV
I love this verse because it does not promise that we will understand every mile before we begin walking.
It promises direction.
It reminds us that God is present in the turns, the uncertainty, the rebuilding, and the decisions we make when the road ahead still feels unfamiliar.
Following God may not always look like certainty.
Sometimes it looks like taking one honest step.
One protected step.
One peaceful step.
A Friday Check-In
Before you enter the weekend, I want you to sit with these questions:
What have I been following that is pulling me away from peace?
What voice have I given too much authority over my life?
What would it look like to honor what I know, instead of endlessly searching for what someone else will not say?
What is one faithful step I can take that lets me remain whole?
Maybe that step is resting.
Maybe it is setting a boundary.
Maybe it is having the conversation you have been avoiding.
Maybe it is releasing the need to have the last word.
Maybe it is coming back to yourself, coming back to God, and choosing not to visit the same emotional room again today.
Ending Whisper
Beautiful soul, following peace may not give you every answer by tonight.
But it can give you back to yourself.
It can remind you that God is still leading, that your discernment is worth honoring, and that the next faithful step does not have to cost you your wholeness.
Follow what brings you closer to God.
Follow what lets you remain true.
Follow the peace that leads you home.

🎵 Frequency Feature: Tune Into What Tells the Truth
Today’s Frequency Feature is not a song - it is a reminder.
In a world full of competing voices, old stories, outside opinions, and unanswered questions, we have to become intentional about what we allow to shape our inner atmosphere. The loudest signal is not always the truest one.
The gold and blue waves in today’s image represent that choice: turning down the static, releasing the voices that keep us doubting ourselves, and tuning into the truth that brings us back to peace.
I have learned that clarity does not always arrive through a dramatic explanation. Sometimes it comes through the quiet confirmation God places in your spirit—the reminder that you do not have to keep chasing what leaves you confused, small, or emotionally exhausted.
Beautiful soul, protect your frequency today.
Choose the thoughts that are true.
Choose the people and places that let you remain whole.
Choose the next faithful step, even if you do not yet have the entire map.
You do not have to follow every signal that reaches you. Tune into the truth, let peace lead, and trust that God is still guiding you home.
A Note From Eugenia
Beautiful soul,
I want to take you back to a previous season of my life - one where almost nothing made sense while I was living it.
There were moments I could not explain. Shifts I could feel but could not name. Long stretches where it seemed like the people around me and the circumstances in front of me were asking me to question what my own heart already knew.
And then there were the small synchronicities.
The kind that do not solve the whole story, but quietly remind you that you are not alone inside it.
One Monday morning, after spending the weekend with my best friend, I grabbed some fruit to snack on and took it with me to work. I was not looking for a message. I was not trying to make meaning out of anything. I was simply moving through my morning, carrying what I had picked up without giving it a second thought.
At work, there was this small ritual between us: we would put our things next to each other in the refrigerator.
It may sound simple, but in that season, it felt like a quiet nod between two people trying to keep moving through something neither of us fully understood. No big speech. No perfect explanation. Just a small shared space that seemed to say, Things do not make sense right now, but keep going. One day, they will.
Then I looked down at the blueberries.
The package said: “Better Together.”
And in that moment, it felt like the most beautiful and honest thing I could have received.
Not because it explained everything.
Not because it erased the hurt, the pressure, or the confusion surrounding that season.
But because, for one small moment, it reminded me that connection can still be real even when circumstances are messy. That two people can be doing their best to find their footing while navigating overwhelming dynamics and betrayal from every angle from everyone in their lives, crossed signals, and situations that leave everyone feeling exposed.
I have learned that unhealthy environments can create lose-lose conditions. They can make people doubt their instincts, second-guess good intentions, and feel as though every choice will be misunderstood.
But I have also learned that God can send tenderness into the middle of a hard season.
Sometimes it arrives through a conversation.
Sometimes it comes through a person who keeps showing up.
And sometimes it is printed on a carton of blueberries in a work refrigerator on an ordinary Monday morning.
Beautiful soul, if you are in a season that feels confusing, do not ignore the gentle reminders that you are still seen.
Hold close to what is honest.
Notice who makes you feel less alone.
And keep taking the next faithful step, even before the whole story makes sense.
With love,
