Follow Friday: When Your Presence Walks In First
Follow Friday explores what it means for your energy to walk into the room before your words. When you follow Jesus internally - through prayer, boundaries, and self-control - people can feel the shift in atmosphere long before you speak.
There is a moment in every believer’s journey when following Jesus stops being just about what you do and starts becoming about what you carry. Your energy, your presence, the unseen atmosphere that walks into the room before you ever say a word - that is part of discipleship too. When your inner world is aligned with God, people can feel the difference without you having to explain it.
When Your Soul Wakes Up
There was a season at the tail end of your rebuilding period (before it was once again purposely torn down by everyone around me) when something deep inside finally clicked into place. It felt like you were transmuting energy at max capacity - no longer a victim of the atmosphere around you, but actively shaping it. You were waking up to the power of your soul, to who you truly were in God, and it began to show.
The shift did not come out of nowhere. It came from intentional inner work:
- Prayer habits that rooted you in God instead of in other people’s opinions.
- Boundaries that protected your peace and kept your energy from being drained by every demand.
- A new commitment to self-love anchored in God’s love, not in ego.
Following Jesus in everyday moments is not only about external obedience; it is just as much about allowing Him to reorder your inner world so that what flows out of you carries His peace and presence.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
The Compliment That Confirmed The Shift
One day, you were standing with the leadership team by the office printer. It was an ordinary moment in an ordinary workday. You made a simple comment -something like, “My energy is locked in.” It was not a speech, not a sermon, just a quiet recognition of what you were feeling inside.
That was when your coworker, someone you held in very high regard, responded with an excited tone: she could feel the shift in your energy. She did not just notice that you seemed “happier” or “different.” She felt the atmosphere change. And for you, that became one of the most meaningful compliments you have ever received. It was confirmation that the internal work with God was not just theory; it was tangible.
Jesus carried that same kind of presence. People often sensed something about Him before He even spoke - a peace, an authority, a groundedness that shifted the room. When you began to really meditate on those scriptures, you realized: if His Spirit lives in you, then your internal world can be shaped by that same peace.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7 (NIV)
Following Jesus On The Inside
Most of us grew up hearing what following Jesus looks like on the outside - loving others, serving, forgiving, obeying His commands. All of that matters. But there is another layer that often goes unspoken: following Him internally.
Following Jesus on the inside looks like:
- Choosing thoughts that agree with His truth instead of your fears.
- Letting self-love be an overflow of His unconditional love for you.
- Allowing your inner peace to become so steady that it changes the atmosphere around you.
When you are internally balanced - rooted in God, not tossed by every opinion -people do not always need your words to know something is different. They can feel it when you walk into the room. Your presence says, “It is safe here. There is peace here. God is here.”
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”
Colossians 3:15 (NIV)
From Outsourcing Your Energy To Owning It
Before this shift, your energy was based on everyone else’s expectations. You focused on what they wanted instead of what God was stirring in you. Your internal state rose and fell with their moods, their approval, their reactions. That is an exhausting way to live - and a very common one.
Pulling your energy back to yourself, under God’s leadership, became one of the most important shifts of your life. You stopped outsourcing your peace to other people’s behavior. You stopped letting every room decide who you were allowed to be. Instead, you invested your energy into what God wanted to build with you:
- A steady inner life.
- A clear sense of identity.
- A presence that carries love, not desperation.
That is part of what it means to follow Jesus in everyday moments: letting Him teach you how to steward your own spirit so that your presence tells the truth about who He is.
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)
Practical Ways To Align Your Presence
Here are simple practices you can invite your readers into so their presence begins to speak Jesus before their words do:
- Start your day with alignment, not reaction.
Before checking messages or scrolling, take a few slow breaths and pray: “Jesus, align my heart with Yours today. Let what I carry match who You are.” - Use breath work when you feel thrown off.
When someone’s attitude or a situation jolts you out of peace, pause. Breathe in slowly and pray a short phrase like, “Peace in, fear out,” or “Your presence in me.” Let your body and spirit re calibrate. - Notice who is shaping your energy.
Ask: “Am I walking into rooms trying to match everyone else, or am I bringing the atmosphere of Christ with me?” If you realize you are always matching, gently pull your energy back to center with God. - Remember whose love you walk in.
Walk into rooms with your head held high, not because you are perfect, but because you are loved unconditionally by the Most High God. Let that reality be the foundation of your confidence, not other people’s responses.
“In him we live and move and have our being.”
Acts 17:28 (NIV)
Follow Friday Prayer: Let My Presence Tell The Truth
Jesus,
Teach me
to follow You
on the inside,
not just
on the outside.
Align my heart,
my thoughts,
and my energy
with Your peace.
Pull my attention
away from every room
I am trying to please,
and root me instead
in the love
of my Father.
Thank You
for the people
who notice the shift
and speak life into it.
Let their words
be confirmation
that I am on
the right path
with You.
Help my presence
to carry safety,
kindness,
and truth -
so that when I walk
into a room,
people can feel
a glimpse of You
before I say a word.
Guard my heart,
guide my thoughts,
and keep my energy
anchored in You alone.
Amen.
Follow Friday invitation:
As you move through tomorrow, pay attention to the rooms you enter. Do they shape you, or does your presence quietly shift the atmosphere toward peace? Ask Jesus to help you follow Him so closely on the inside that your very presence becomes a small, steady sermon of His love.
With truth, courage, and grace,
Eugene 💘

Your Journey Starts Here
Many have asked during my TikTok Lives how to begin their personal or spiritual journey. So far, I've explored and mapped the first three stages for those seeking alignment - the awakening, the journey inward, and the path forward.
These stages have brought profound clarity, and I'm grateful to share what I've discovered along the way.
There are still a few details unfolding, but trust that everything is aligning in its own time - and you'll be the first to know when it's ready.
Remember, this is self-love being transmuted into art; growth takes time, and you can't rush an actual journey, beautiful souls. In due time, all the right energy falls into place. Just have faith. Hold the vision.
