Sacred Saturday: Anchor Yourself in the Present
Sacred Saturday is my weekly exhale, a practice of stillness, journaling, and prayer to help you rest in God’s presence and reclaim what matters.
Every Saturday, we pause to anchor ourselves in God’s presence - right here, right now.
Breathe in, settle your shoulders, and let this be your gentle exhale. Sacred Saturday is a weekly practice of stillness, journaling, and prayer to rest in God’s presence.
The Call to Stillness
When was the last time you truly stopped? Not a pause in your to-do list - I mean, stopped.
Sit down. Close your eyes. Feel the weight of your body in the chair. Hear the hum of whatever is keeping you grounded. For me, it’s the song “A Moment Suspended” from StreamBeats by Harris Heller pulsing in my ears while I type. For you, it might be the creak of a porch, the kettle’s whisper, or complete silence.
This is not avoidance. This is presence. Invite your feelings in - pain, love, grief, joy - each one belongs. When we let them speak, healing begins.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” - Psalm 46:10
Anchored in Faith
My circle is intentionally small. My anchor is faith, family, and a few trusted souls. Addiction taught me the hard truth about people, places, and things.
As a father, “places” was always the hardest. I never wanted to be away from my kids. Yet there were seasons when I was barely keeping my head above water, making sacrifices that felt endless. I chose those sacrifices in the hope that you might one day walk in freedom - with time, with peace, with financial stability. It is inbound. Everything else is noise.
To my sons: if you ever read this, know that this was always for you. The seeds we plant today will be the harvest you gather for decades to come.
I know the hurt that weighs on your hearts from the wrestling matches and football games I missed. We cannot get those moments back, and that pain is real. No matter how old you grow, in my heart you will always be my little boys.
The way you have softened my soul over the years is immeasurable. I sit with the ache of those missed moments, too, and though I may never fully see them through your eyes, I will always respect your feelings as valid. You matter. You are loved.
The countless words of admiration I hear from those who know you remind me that your hearts are in the right place. Protect that with everything you have. And always honor your mother, whose love for you runs deeper than life itself.
And know this: nothing outside of you will ever give you lasting happiness or validation. Those are treasures you can only cultivate within yourself. Learn from my mistakes. Choose wisely, sooner rather than later. Life opens in a different way when you do.
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” - Ephesians 6:4
A Sacred Invitation: Try This Practice
You do not have to figure it all out today. Small steps are sacred steps.
A short practice:
- Sit in a chair. Put on headphones. Play something that softens the edges. For me, it’s “A Moment Suspended.”
- Breathe slowly. Feel lungs fill, chest rise. Let your jaw unclench.
- As you exhale, release one expectation you’ve been holding - an opinion, a deadline, a fear.
- Open a journal. Type or write without editing. This is your exhale; treat it like a sacrament. (That is why I write this blog)
- Close with a short prayer or gratitude; one sentence is enough.
Balancing Masculine and Feminine Energy in Faith
If you have not yet discovered it, the journey is about balance. Within each of us lives both the masculine and the feminine, strength and softness, action and stillness. Pay attention to the people closest to you. Often, they will lean heavily on the opposite side of your own energy. That is not an accident; it is an invitation.
There comes a point where you must master both within yourself. When you can stand in your internal harmony and connect with another soul who has done the same, it feels like fire meeting fire. Many call this meeting your twin flame (this can also be a best friend of the same sex). Your soul rises, your body listens. You are the operating system. Align your body, your heart, and your will. (Song update: Worst Way - Riley Green)
And part of this balance meant confronting my own shadows. There was a time in my life when I leaned hard on the victim card. I was an addict. I lived in the “poor me” story, convinced I had ruined my life. But here’s the truth - when you make reckless choices, you win reckless prizes.
The moment I stopped clinging to pity and started making better decisions, life got better. It is not rocket science; it is alignment. The story you tell yourself is the path you walk. Choose differently, and the road changes beneath your feet.
Choose wisely, my friends. Aim with intention. Remove what does not support your growth. Too many souls are wandering this world chasing external answers, blind to the truth that what they are looking for is already inside of them. Victimhood is a choice, but so is freedom.
Balance steadies your steps. Remember, success is not a single moment; it is a long timeline. Zoom out. Keep showing up. Keep planting. Be the warrior who tends the garden, not the gardener dragged into war.
Fall is the season that whispers this truth most clearly. As the leaves shift and the air sharpens, the earth itself calls us to slow down, to find clarity, to remember who we are.
Reflection Questions
As you sit with these truths today, here are a few questions to guide your reflection:
• Where in my day am I pretending I do not need rest?
• What small thing can I do now to be present - sit, breathe, journal?
• How am I balancing strength with tenderness in my life?
• What one sacrifice today will plant for tomorrow’s freedom?
A Sabbath Blessing
Lord, teach me stillness. Quiet the noise around me and within me. Anchor me in Your love and help me release what I was never meant to carry.
Give me the courage to show up honestly and the patience to tend what matters most. Amen.
Closing Whisper
Before you rush back into the noise of the world, permit yourself to linger here for one more breath. Feel your chest rise, your shoulders soften, your soul quiet. Sacred Saturday is not about escaping life; it is about remembering that you already carry God’s presence within you. Anchor yourself in that truth and let it shape the way you walk into tomorrow.
Much love and appreciation,
Eugene
