Surprise Sunday: A Letter From the Other Side of This Season
What if your future self could write back to you today? This Surprise Sunday is a letter from one year from now, looking back on the wall, the house, the midnight songs, the doors, and the joy, and an invitation to write your own.
Whisper: God has already read the last page of this season. It ends in joy.
Good morning, beautiful soul.
This Sunday, I am doing something different again.
On Wednesday, we said hindsight is always 20/20. So this week I asked myself a question: what if I did not have to wait? What if the person I will be one year from now could write back to the person I am today?
God once told a prophet named Habakkuk to do something like that. To write the future down before it arrived.
"Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time... Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay." (Habakkuk 2:2-3)
So I sat down, closed my eyes, and let my future self speak. This is the letter.
Dear Me
October 25, 2027
Dear me,
I remember exactly where you are sitting right now. I remember the quiet in the house. I remember the questions that still do not have answers, and the way you keep showing up anyway.
I want you to know something first. You made it.
Not because everything got easy. It did not. But because you kept walking, one faithful step at a time, even on the days you could not see the road. I am writing to you from the other side of this season, and I need you to hear what I can see now.
About the Wall
You were right not to come down.
I know how loud it was. The rumors, the pressure, the invitations to argue and explain. I know how badly you wanted to climb down and set the record straight.
But every brick you laid while the noise was shouting mattered. The wall held. And the peace you guarded so carefully became the foundation for everything that came after. Stay up there. You are doing a great work.
About the House
The quiet work was love.
Every dollar you saved, every bill you faced, every wise choice you made when no one was clapping, it all added up. You were building more than a house. You were building a place of peace for the people you love most.
The storehouses you filled in the quiet years were exactly what was needed.
About the Midnight Songs
Somebody was listening. More people than you knew.
On the nights you sang through tears, when you whispered "God, I still trust You" and barely believed it yourself, the atmosphere was shifting. Not just for you. For the ones held in the same place.
Your praise did not just carry you through. It carried other people too. Some of them will tell you what your words meant, and you will cry happy tears.
"Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them." (Psalm 126:5-6)
About the Doors
The doors you stayed for mattered. And the one you finally walked through was the right one.
I know how hard it was to wait when everything in you wanted to run. I know how confusing it felt when a door opened and His voice said not yet. But you listened. And when it was time, He walked you out with honor, just like He promised.
You did not miss anything by waiting. You were being protected.
About the Joy
It never left. It only grew.
Some mornings it felt hidden under the weight of everything. But it was there the whole time, stored in Him, not in your circumstances. And now it overflows.
I want you to know that the happiness you found this year was not a moment. It was a beginning.
"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?" (Isaiah 43:19)
Keep Going
So here is what I need you to do, from where I am standing.
Keep going. Keep transmuting. Keep tuning yourself higher. Keep laying bricks, singing at midnight, and waiting for His voice before you walk through any door. Rest when He tells you to rest. Rejoice even when it does not make sense.
And when it feels like too much, remember this letter. Remember that I am real, and I am waiting for you here. It is beautiful on this side. You are going to love who you become.
With all my love and all my gratitude,
You, one year from now
Your Surprise Sunday Practice
Beautiful soul, today I want you to write your own letter.
- Date it one year from today. Write October 25, 2027 at the top.
- Write as your future self. Tell the present you what made it through, what mattered most, and what you are proud of.
- Seal it. Fold it, put it in an envelope, and write "Open October 25, 2027" on the front. Then put it somewhere safe.
One year from now, open it, and see how faithful God has been.
Note from Eugenia
Beautiful soul, God is not waiting at the end of your season wondering how it will turn out. He is already there. He has already read the last page. Faith is living today as if your future self's letter is already in your hands. Because in a way, it is.
"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1)

Frequency Feature: "God Only Knows" by for KING & COUNTRY
Beautiful soul, there is so much about this season that no one else can see.
They do not see the quiet mornings. They do not see the prayers you whisper on the drive to work, the tears you cry where no one is watching, or the faith it takes to keep laying bricks when the wall still looks unfinished. Some days it feels like the whole world has an opinion about your story, and not one person truly knows it.
But God does.
He knows every chapter you have already walked through. And He knows every chapter still waiting on the other side of this season. He has already read the letter from your future self, because He was there when it was written.
"You have searched me, Lord, and you know me... Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely." (Psalm 139:1-4)
That is why today's Frequency Feature is "God Only Knows" by for KING & COUNTRY, from their 2018 album Burn The Ships. Brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone wrote it for everyone carrying something no one else can see: the shame, the struggle, and the hidden weight. Their answer is the same one this letter has been pointing to all along. You are fully known, and you are still fully loved.
So let this song play as you write your own letter today. What others cannot see, God already holds. And what you cannot see yet, God only knows.
