Surprise Sunday: What If the Peace You Prayed For Is Already Knocking?
What if the peace you prayed for is already making its way to you? This Surprise Sunday reflection invites you to release the fear of receiving, honor sweet memories, and make room for the joy, healing, and new beginnings God is bringing.
Some memories return like a favorite song, not to pull you backward, but to remind you that joy has found you before and it can find you again.
Good morning, beautiful souls.
Sometimes the surprise is not that life gets difficult.
We know life can be difficult. We know what it feels like to carry too much, wait too long, protect ourselves after disappointment, and wonder whether peace will ever feel safe enough to trust.
The real surprise can be what happens after we have survived.
What happens when the life we prayed for begins to get close?
What happens when a healthy opportunity, a peaceful room, a kind person, a quiet morning, a new creative idea, or a door we thought was closed begins to open?
For many of us, goodness can feel unfamiliar.
We have become so used to bracing for pain that our bodies do not always know how to relax when peace arrives. We have spent so much time preparing for disappointment that we can question every good thing before it has a chance to meet us.
But beautiful soul, healing is not only about learning what to release.
It is also about learning what you are allowed to receive.
When Peace Feels Unfamiliar
Survival mode teaches us to stay alert.
It teaches us to scan the room, read the energy, anticipate the shift, and keep one part of our heart ready to protect itself. Those instincts may have helped us through seasons that felt unpredictable, disappointing, or emotionally heavy.
There is no shame in that.
Your heart was trying to keep you safe.
But survival is not meant to be the only language your heart ever speaks.
There comes a time when God gently teaches us a new rhythm.
A rhythm where we can use wisdom without living in fear.
A rhythm where we can have boundaries without building walls around every possibility.
A rhythm where we can discern what is healthy without assuming that every good thing will eventually hurt us.
That is part of what it means to heal.
It is not becoming naïve.
It is becoming more rooted.
It is learning to say, I can pay attention without panicking. I can be careful without closing myself off. I can honor my past without letting it decide every part of my future.
God Is Still Doing Something New
Sometimes we stare so long at what disappointed us that we miss the new thing growing quietly in front of us.
But God does not ask us to live forever in the chapter that wounded us.
He invites us to notice what He is building now.
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” - Isaiah 43:19 NIV
The new thing may not arrive with fireworks.
It may begin with a deep breath.
It may look like waking up without dread.
It may be the first time you say no and do not feel guilty afterward.
It may be a creative idea that keeps returning to your heart.
It may be the courage to clean your space, care for your body, apply for something new, accept an invitation, or imagine a future that is not defined by the pain you have already endured.
Do not overlook the small signs of restoration.
A seed does not look like a garden at first.
But God knows what He planted in you.
And He knows how to make a way, even in places that once felt dry and impossible.
You Are Allowed to Receive
Receiving can be difficult when you have become used to giving, carrying, fixing, and making your own way through hard seasons.
Sometimes we feel safer being the strong one because we know how to function there. We know how to show up for everyone else. We know how to work, create, solve, encourage, and keep moving.
But allowing yourself to receive support, rest, kindness, opportunity, or genuine love can feel vulnerable.
It can require a different kind of courage.
Yet God is not asking you to reject every good thing out of fear that it will be taken away.
Scripture reminds us:
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” - Psalm 84:11 NIV
God is both sun and shield.
He is light for the path ahead, and He is protection while you walk it.
You do not have to choose between being wise and being open.
You can let God lead you into healthier spaces without pretending you did not learn anything from the old ones.
You can receive what is peaceful without apologizing for no longer being available for chaos.
You can welcome what is kind without making yourself small to prove you deserve it.
You can let a new season be new.
A Full Life Is Still Possible
Jesus did not come only to help us endure the parts of life that steal our joy.
He came so we could live fully.
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” - John 10:10 NIV
A full life does not mean a perfect life.
It does not mean there will never be grief, disappointment, unanswered questions, or difficult days.
It means pain does not get to become the only thing you expect.
It means your future is still allowed to hold laughter.
It is allowed to hold safety.
It is allowed to hold honest connection, meaningful work, creativity, rest, faith, healthy love, and moments that remind you why you kept going.
Beautiful soul, you do not have to distrust joy just because sorrow once introduced itself loudly.
You do not have to question every peaceful moment because chaos used to be familiar.
You do not have to keep proving that you are strong by refusing what would nourish you.
The life God is growing in you may ask you to open your hands.
Make One Small Space
Today, do not pressure yourself to transform your whole life.
Just make one small space for good.
Accept help if it is offered with sincerity.
Take a walk without rushing.
Cook or order something you enjoy.
Let yourself rest without bargaining with yourself first.
Open the journal.
Return to the dream.
Reply to the opportunity.
Spend time with someone who makes you feel safe, seen, and respected.
Or simply sit with God and say:
I am learning how to receive.
You do not have to know exactly how the new season will unfold.
You only need enough faith to stop rejecting the possibility that it can be beautiful.
The Surprise Is Still Coming
Maybe the peace you have prayed for is not far away.
Maybe it is already knocking in small, quiet ways.
Maybe it has been waiting for you to stop asking whether you are worthy of it.
Maybe it is waiting for you to believe that healing did not only prepare you to survive what happened. It prepared you to receive what is next.
So today, beautiful soul, loosen your grip on the belief that you must always be on guard.
Keep your wisdom.
Keep your boundaries.
Keep your faith.
But leave a little room for God to surprise you.
Because the story is not over.
And the good thing you stopped expecting may still be finding its way to your door.
You survived what was hard. Now let God teach you how to receive what is good.

🎵 Frequency Feature: “Espresso” - Sabrina Carpenter
This Surprise Sunday, our Frequency Feature is “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter.
Some songs do more than play in the background. They hold a whole frequency in time: a particular season, a certain kind of confidence, a memory of laughter, freedom, connection, or simply being present enough to enjoy life.
“Espresso” reminds me of a fond past frequency, and I can honor that memory without needing to live there. I can smile at what was sweet, appreciate the version of myself that existed in that moment, and still remain open to the new joy God is bringing into my life now.
That is part of healing too: allowing good memories to be good memories. Not evidence that the best is behind you, but proof that your heart has always been capable of feeling light, alive, and connected.
Beautiful soul, cherish the frequencies that made you smile. Then make room for the joy, peace, and beautiful surprises still looking for you.
A Note From Eugenia
Beautiful soul,
I am learning that receiving can feel just as vulnerable as releasing.
When you have spent a long time surviving, protecting your peace, and holding yourself together, it can be hard to believe that something good can arrive without asking you to abandon yourself first.
But I do not want fear to become the gatekeeper of every beautiful thing God may be bringing into my life.
I can be wise without being closed.
I can have boundaries without building walls around my heart.
I can honor what I have been through without assuming that every new opportunity, peaceful moment, or kind connection will end the same way.
Healing is teaching me that I do not have to stay ready for disappointment.
I can let joy be simple.
I can receive rest without guilt.
I can accept support without questioning whether I deserve it.
I can make room for a future that feels lighter, safer, and more aligned with the person God is helping me become.
Beautiful soul, if peace feels unfamiliar right now, do not rush yourself.
Just let God show you, one gentle moment at a time, that good things can be safe to receive.
With love,
Daniel Eugene “Eugenia” Timmons
