The Midweek Mirror: Returning to Stillness
Stillness is not perfection, but presence. Returning to it allows us to release, to heal, and to carry love into the next season God has prepared.
Today’s Whisper in One Breath
Beautiful souls, slowing down does not mean falling behind. It means giving yourself the space to release, to heal, and to remember that God is already holding you.
Returning to Stillness
After weeks of traveling, last night was my first night back in my own bed. My first night grounding again in my usual place, outside near the pond, surrounded by nature.
I did not realize how much energy I had been carrying until I returned to that familiar stillness. The moment I sat with the quiet, I felt the weight lift. This is what presence does. It releases what we did not even know we were holding.
And let me say this clearly: just because I write these whispers does not mean I have life figured out. What I do know, with absolute certainty, is that our bodies are far more capable than we often give them credit for. We can literally heal ourselves.
I also know this truth: you can only fail if you give up. And if you are reading this right now, I already know you are not the type of person who gives up either.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)
The Gift of Alone Time
Whether married, dating, or single, it is healthy to have time apart. Alone moments are not signs of weakness; they are sacred spaces where God whispers the loudest.
For me, solitude has been a teacher born out of pain. In my mind, when you get married, there is no turning back. Unless there is infidelity, you figure it out. I never thought I would be divorced, ever.
And for the record, I want to be clear: my divorce was the result of my addiction, not anything else. That is a truth I own fully.
I still remember the night my best friend looked up the court records and said, “Bro, you are divorced, it is on the court docs.” Even then, I did not believe the papers had actually been filed until I looked it up myself. Sadly, life has a way of delivering wounds that take a long time to heal.
Since then, aside from a short relationship in the early years, I have chosen to walk a path of solitude. My time has been mostly mine, except when I am with my boys or friends. In that solitude, I have learned to be honest with myself, to process emotions instead of numbing them, and to meet God in the quiet.
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (Luke 5:16)
Seasons of the Soul
Even as I have embraced solitude, I know it will not last forever. I carry a vivid picture of where my life is going, and I sense a new season drawing near that I am welcoming. You can often feel instinctively when life is about to shift. Although I have never brought these emotions into reality beyond my personal journal, I know it is only a matter of time.
You may try to numb your emotions or bury them, but eventually your soul begins interacting on a level beyond your understanding. In those moments, the only choice is to trust God and let His beauty unfold.
Beautiful souls, I spent years waking up ashamed of my past. But now, when I rise, I am grateful to be me. That shift is a gift I pray each of you will experience in your own life. Reframe your past as the training ground for who you are becoming. Embrace the good, the bad, and the ugly, and watch God turn it into something beautiful. I am living proof that He will rebuild you stronger, often right in front of the very people who once doubted you.
And here is the truth: even if the future does not unfold the way I imagine, I know it will still be beautiful. My walk with God has shown me that everything works out exactly as it is meant to.
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
Reflection for Your Week
- Where in your life do you need to slow down and allow yourself to process what you are carrying?
- How has solitude been a teacher for you in this season?
- What emotions might God be inviting you to release so you can step into a new chapter with freedom?
- How can you reframe part of your past as training ground for who you are becoming?
Blessing
Beautiful souls, may this week bring you moments of stillness that ground you, solitude that heals you, and faith that carries you into the season ahead. You are not behind. You are not too much. You are never alone. Have faith that everything will play out exactly the way it should.
Closing Whisper
Beautiful soul, slow down. God is already holding you.
With love and truth,
Eugene 💚
