Truth-Telling Tuesday: Strong When Targeted
When you are intentionally targeted, lied about, or subtly sabotaged, it can shake your confidence and faith. This Truth-Telling Tuesday reminds you to study the fruit, anchor in God, and stay strong in who He says you are.
“Just because they target you doesn’t mean they define you.”
That is the Truth-Telling Tuesday invitation for this week.
There is a certain kind of attack that does not leave visible bruises.
It shows up as people trying to provoke you, twist your words, make you “react,” and then point to your reaction as proof that you are the problem.
And when it keeps happening - in traffic, at work, with “friends,” with “family” - it stops feeling random and starts feeling like a pattern.
Scripture has language for this kind of season: unjust suffering, being hated without cause, being tested by fire.
And yet, right in the middle of it, God calls you not to collapse, but to stand.
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.”
[Matthew 5:11]
When Targeting Looks Ordinary
Targeting does not always look like obvious persecution.
Sometimes it looks like someone losing their mind in a Taco Bell drive‑through for no reason, honking and screaming to pull you out of your peace.
Sometimes it is a stranger at a red light going out of their way to flip out at you, trying to drag you into chaos you did not create.
Other times, it is not strangers at all.
It is “prospects” who seem strangely scripted, going from normal conversation to explosive anger and profanity, only to later apologize - like the goal was never honest communication, but to shake your confidence and get a reaction.
It is working harder than anyone around you - giving more hours, more heart, more faithfulness - and still being excluded from the opportunities, trips, and celebrations others receive.
It is:
- The car payment you were told was deferred but never was.
- The wrong booth bag mysteriously taken when you know you packed everything correctly.
- The “best friend” you encouraged while knives were quietly sliding into your back.
- The boss you confide in about your safety who turns it into an accusation against you.
- The team that isolates you, deflects every question, and watches you be put through hell without a word of truth.
All of it adds up to one loud reality: this is not just disorganization or coincidence - it is subtle sabotage.
And the emotions are real: anger, confusion, disappointment, exhaustion, numbness.
Yet even there, God speaks.
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
[Psalm 34:19]
When Those You Trusted Join the Pattern
The deepest cuts are not from strangers on the road; they are from the ones who called you family and friend.
The coworkers you thought had your back watched the isolation and said nothing.
The leader you respected changed the story to make you the problem, creating new “standards” just to place the blame on your shoulders.
This isn't just dealing with:
- A difficult job.
- A bad day.
- A misunderstanding.
This was dealing with a web of half‑truths, deflections, and manipulations that can leave you asking, over and over:
“What is actually going on, and why will no one tell me the truth?”
The enemy uses this to attack your self‑confidence, to make you question your discernment, your worth, your sanity.
But God uses the same season to sharpen your discernment and patience, to expose who is really for you - and to show you that, when everyone else stays silent, He alone stands up for you.
“Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked.”
[Psalm 43:1]
Studying Fruit When You Feel Set Up
In a season like this, it is easy to internalize the narrative:
“Maybe it is my fault. Maybe I really am the problem.”
Truth-Telling Tuesday interrupts that lie.
You are not called to gaslight yourself; you are called to study fruit.
Scripture shows that unjust suffering for doing good is seen and honored by God.
“For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God.”
[1 Peter 2:19]
When people:
- Consistently provoke you and then play innocent.
- Exclude you while using your labor.
- Twist your questions into accusations.
- Refuse to give straight answers when you seek clarity.
…you are allowed to call that what it is: not love, not loyalty, not leadership - but manipulation and control.
Studying the fruit is not bitterness; it is clarity.
You are also allowed to acknowledge the spiritual layer:
There is an enemy who would love to use people’s fear, jealousy, and hidden agendas to wear you down until you shrink back from who God called you to be.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
[Ephesians 6:12]
People may cooperate with darkness, but they are not your final enemy.
That is why you can tell the truth about what happened without letting hatred define you.
Truth-Telling Tuesday Practice: Staying Strong When Targeted
Here is a way to work with this today, especially if you feel harassed, singled out, or quietly sabotaged.
- Name what is really happening.
Write down one or two situations that still sit heavy on your heart - the drive‑through moments, the workplace sabotage, the financial “mistake,” the friend’s betrayal.
Next to each one, ask: “If this happened to someone I love, what would I call it?”
Let honesty speak.
Then place it before God and pray:
“Lord, You see every detail. Show me what is truly going on, and show me where You are in it.”
[James 1:5] - Refuse the false identity.
The enemy wants these events to rename you: difficult, unstable, overreacting, unworthy.
Counter that lie with truth:
“I am chosen, beloved, and upheld by God - even when others mishandle me.”
Meditate on:
“But you are a chosen people… God’s special possession.”
[1 Peter 2:9]
- Anchor your strength in God, not performance.
You worked harder, gave more, stayed faithful - and were still mistreated.
Let this free you from the lie that “if I just perform better, they’ll treat me right.”
Your strength now comes from steadiness in God, not from pleasing people.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”
[Isaiah 40:31]
- Set one boundary that honors your peace.
Staying strong is not staying available to abuse.
Ask: “What is one boundary that protects my sanity and honors God?”
It might be:
- No longer over‑explaining yourself to people who never answer directly.
- Reducing contact with those who repeatedly provoke or mock you.
- Stepping away from environments where you no longer feel safe.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
[Proverbs 4:23]
- Let God be the One who vindicates.
You do not have to chase every rumor or prove your innocence to people committed to misunderstanding you.
Invite God into that courtroom.
“He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.”
[Psalm 37:6]
Truth-Telling Tuesday Prayer
Jesus,
You see the setup, the sabotage, the isolation,
the honking horns, the slammed phones,
the promotions that never come,
the trips others take while we carry the weight.
You see the nights we lie awake replaying conversations,
wondering what we missed,
wishing someone would just tell the truth.
Thank You for being the One who does tell the truth -
about who we are,
about what really happened,
about the enemy who hates our calling
and the God who fiercely guards our lives.
Where there has been subtle sabotage,
heal the places in us that started to believe we were the problem.
Where trust has been broken by “friends,” “family,” and leaders,
restore our faith in You as the One who never lies, never deflects, never abandons.
Teach us to stand strong without becoming hard,
to set boundaries without becoming bitter,
to tell the truth without needing revenge.
Fight for us where we cannot see behind the scenes.
Expose what needs exposing,
close what needs closing,
and open doors no human hand can sabotage.
Anchor us in the certainty that we are chosen, beloved, and protected,
even when we are targeted without cause.
Amen.
And here is the Truth-Telling Tuesday whisper to carry into tomorrow:
“You were not abandoned in the targeting.
I was there the whole time -
and I am turning what was meant to break you
into the strength that will carry you.”
