Frequency Thursday: You Are Not The Atmosphere You Were Abused In
Frequency Thursday is the night the music in your living room becomes a bridge between here and home. This image captures the way a single song, played in a quiet chair, can shift the atmosphere from heavy grief to holy imagination as heaven’s melody wraps around your body.
Beautiful Souls,
There are weeks when the air itself feels heavy.
You wake up and the room already feels crowded with old accusations, nervous‑system static, and spiritual warfare that did not clock out when you left the abusive job or the controlled home.
If you have lived through narcissistic abuse and gaslighting, you know what it is to breathe an atmosphere you did not choose. The words spoken over you, the music in the background, the tension in the walls, the spiritual climate in the room all became part of your body’s experience of “normal.”
Frequency Thursday is about this simple but wild truth:
You are not the atmosphere you were abused in.
And in Christ, you are allowed to shift the one you are living in now.
Death‑Words In A Nervous‑System Body
Trauma does not just live in memories. It lives in the way your body flinches at a tone of voice, tightens at a text tone, or braces when the room goes quiet.
For years, you inhaled a certain frequency:
- “You are too sensitive.”
- “You are crazy.”
- “You are the problem.”
Over and over, those phrases became like background noise. Proverbs puts language around this:
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Proverbs 18:21
Death‑words are not neutral. They shape atmospheres and nervous systems. They can leave you in a constant state of hypervigilance, waiting for the next verbal hit.
If you notice that even in a safe room your chest is tight and your thoughts are loud with old scripts, Frequency Thursday is not here to shame you. It is here to remind you:
“These words were planted in you, but they are not you. They were broadcast over you, but they do not get to be the only frequency anymore.”
Atmosphere Is Real, But It Is Not Lord
Scripture and wise teachers talk about “spiritual atmospheres” as the invisible climate around us that can confuse or inspire, restrict or empower. Trauma adds another layer: your nervous system reacts to both your inner world and the unseen spiritual weather around you.
The good news: you are not powerless.
In Genesis 1, the earth was formless and empty and darkness covered the surface, “until God spoke.” The atmosphere did not change itself. It shifted when the voice of God cut through the dark.
Frequency Thursday invites you to imitate your Father in that way.
No, you cannot “speak everything into existence” like God can. But you can absolutely refuse agreement with atmospheres that do not belong to Him, and you can join Him in filling your space with different words, different songs, and a different focus.
Shifting Atmospheres, Not Carrying Them
Many survivors of abuse live like their job is to carry the atmosphere for everyone else. To absorb tension. To regulate abusers. To walk on eggshells so the room stays calm.
In Christ, your assignment changes.
You are not the shock absorber. You are the image‑bearer.
Paul writes:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Romans 12:2
The “pattern” you were soaked in may have been chaos, manipulation, or spiritual fakery. Frequency Thursday is the weekly reminder that you are allowed to stop conforming to that pattern and to let your mind and atmosphere be renewed.
This does not mean pretending the trauma is over. It means refusing to let trauma write the final atmosphere of your home, your phone, your inner life.
You Are Not The Atmosphere
Here is a crucial distinction for trauma survivors:
- You are the person Jesus loves, indwells, and is healing.
- The atmosphere is the mix of spiritual, emotional, and verbal currents around you.
They are connected, but they are not the same.
So when panic hits, Frequency Thursday helps you say:
“This fear I am feeling is real, but it is not my identity. Some of it is trauma. Some of it is the enemy. Some of it is the atmosphere of rooms I used to live in. Jesus, help me separate what is mine to process from what is not mine to carry.”
Then, instead of shaming yourself for feeling triggered, you can take small, concrete steps to retune the space.
A Frequency Audit For Today
Here is a simple Frequency Thursday practice you can try:
1. Notice the words.
Take a few minutes and write down the phrases you have been repeating about yourself this week. Are they life or death. Do they sound like the voice of Love, or like old abusers and accusers.
2. Notice the soundtrack.
What has been playing in your background: rage videos, trauma content, worship, silence, nature sounds. None of it is “bad” by itself, but it all contributes to your atmosphere.
3. Replace one death‑word with one life‑word.
Pick a single phrase that keeps swirling, and answer it with Scripture. For example:
- Death‑word: “I will always be stuck in this.”
Life‑word: “I am being transformed by the renewing of my mind.”
Romans 12:2 - Death‑word: “Nothing good is coming for me.”
Life‑word: “Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable… think about such things.”
Philippians 4:8
Speak the life‑word out loud, even if your body does not believe it yet. You are not casting a spell. You are agreeing with what God already says and letting that frequency start to touch your nervous system.
Healing Atmospheres And Healing Bodies
Trauma‑informed Christian counseling reminds us that healing requires both nervous‑system care and spiritual care. Changing your atmosphere will not magically erase trauma, but it can create a safer space for healing to unfold.
That might look like:
- Limiting contact with people who constantly speak death‑words over you.
- Filling your space with music and scriptures that remind your body of safety and hope.
- Asking trusted friends to pray over your home, not to “fix” everything, but to bless it as a place where you can rest.
- Working with a therapist who understands that EMDR and prayer can coexist.
Over time, you can walk into your own room and feel the difference. The air begins to agree more with the truth than with your past.
Frequency Feature: I Can Only Imagine - MercyMe
Tonight’s frequency feature is “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe, a song written out of grief that somehow became a rush of hope for millions of people who have lost someone they love. Bart Millard wrote it after his father’s death, turning one simple phrase into a prayer about what it will be like to stand in front of Jesus and see what our loved ones are already seeing.
I can still remember exactly where I was the first time I heard this song. I was in K. Heidi’s living room and his grandmother had just passed away, God bless her soul. I remember not just that moment but every moment around it, the way the room felt, the way the lyrics wrapped themselves around our grief, and I thank God in many ways for that memory. It marked me with a different frequency: not denial of loss, but a tenderness that said, “There is more than this room, more than this pain, and one day we will see it with our own eyes.”
As you listen, let “I Can Only Imagine” hold space for your own losses. Let it give your nervous system permission to stop fighting for a minute and wonder instead: What kind of Love makes heaven more real than the hurt I am holding. What kind of Jesus could meet me so fully that, in His presence, I cannot even predict whether I will dance, fall, or just stand in awe. Let this song be your frequency of holy imagination, where grief and hope coexist and the atmosphere of heaven quietly leaks into the room you are sitting in right now.
Your Frequency Thursday
So as you step into Frequency Thursday, let it be less about achieving some mystical high vibration and more about this:
- Noticing the atmosphere you inherited.
- Refusing to call it your identity.
- Choosing, one word and one song at a time, to agree with life instead of death.
Your nervous system is allowed to be a work in progress.
Your home is allowed to become a sanctuary slowly.
Your words are allowed to sound shaky at first.
What matters is that they are moving in a different direction now.
Death and life are still in the power of the tongue.
Proverbs 18:21
Tonight, let your tongue, your playlists, and your prayers choose life.
- Daniel Eugene 👑🕊️🌾
EugeniasThoughts: Tonight my atmosphere is remembering a living room, a grieving family, and a song that let heaven touch our sorrow for the first time. “I Can Only Imagine” still reminds me that even in the rooms where death feels loudest, Jesus is already preparing a scene my heart can barely picture, and that changes the frequency of everything.
Every word is a whisper of intention, carved in stillness and light.
