Guarding your heart is not the same as closing it. You can be wise without becoming hardened. You can protect your peace while remaining open to the goodness God still has for you.


Good morning, beautiful soul,

Life may have taught you to be careful. Let God teach you how to be discerning, grounded, and hopeful at the same time.

You are allowed to begin this week with a guarded heart and an open hope.

Life can teach us to protect ourselves after disappointment, after being misunderstood, or after giving too much access to people who did not handle our hearts with care.

But guarding your heart does not mean closing it.

It means becoming more intentional about what you allow to shape you, drain you, and have access to your peace.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Proverbs 4:23, NIV

Guarding your heart may look like slowing down before you respond.

It may look like choosing peace over proving your point.

It may look like loving someone from a healthy distance.

It may look like remembering that forgiveness and access are not always the same thing.

Beautiful soul, you do not have to carry last week into this week.

You do not have to solve every concern before Monday ends.

You do not have to let fear make every decision.

Ask God for wisdom. He is not confused by what you are navigating, and He will not shame you for needing clarity.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
James 1:5, NIV

This week, let your boundaries be clear.

Let your spirit stay soft.

Let your faith remain stronger than your fear.

And let hope have a place in your heart again.

God’s mercy did not run out because last week was difficult. His compassion is still present. His faithfulness is still covering you. This morning is a fresh reminder that you are not beginning from emptiness.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

A Gentle Check-In

Before you move into the week, ask yourself:

  • What needs a boundary?
  • What needs to be released to God?
  • What deserves my attention?
  • What am I ready to hope for again?

You are not becoming cold because you are being careful.

You are becoming wise.

You are not behind because you need time to heal.

You are being renewed.

You are not alone as you take your next step.


Choose Love and Light

Beautiful soul, if you are going through a difficult time, please remember this:

You do not have to become what hurt you.

You do not have to abandon your values because life feels unfair.

You do not have to seek quick relief in the very things that leave your spirit, body, mind, or future feeling heavier afterward.

Love and light will always be the right choice.

Not because it is always easy.

Not because it means ignoring pain.

But because choosing love keeps your heart connected to who God created you to be. Choosing light helps you see clearly when life feels uncertain.

The world may offer shortcuts that promise comfort, validation, escape, or temporary control. It may tempt you to compromise your peace, disrespect your body, react from anger, or choose what feels good in the moment over what is truly good for you in the long run.

But beautiful soul, you are worth more than a temporary escape.

“The one who sows to please their sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
Galatians 6:8, NIV

Your body is not an afterthought.

Your mind is not a place for chaos to take up residence.

Your spirit is not meant to live on whatever only momentarily numbs the pain.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you…? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
1 Corinthians 6:19–20, NIV

Delaying gratification is not deprivation.

It is self-respect.

It is choosing lasting peace over passing pleasure.

It is trusting that what God is building in you is worth protecting.

You may not see the full reward today. But every time you choose wisdom over impulse, rest over self-destruction, truth over performance, and love over resentment, you are planting something beautiful for your future.

Choose what honors your temple.

Choose what protects your peace.

Choose love.

Choose light.

And if today is hard, take it one faithful choice at a time.

Reflection

There are moments when pain can make you feel stuck.

You may feel tired of fighting for your peace.

You may feel discouraged by how long the healing has taken.

You may feel tempted to believe that nothing can change.

But beautiful soul, your life is still yours.

Other people may offer opinions. They may create pressure. They may mishandle your trust, test your boundaries, or try to make you doubt yourself.

But they do not get the final word over your life.

You are the one who can choose your next step.

You are the one who can ask for help.

You are the one who can make a new decision.

You are the one who can choose healing over harmful habits, truth over denial, and peace over the need to keep proving yourself.

The message of “Hold On” is rooted in endurance, personal responsibility, and the belief that change is possible one day at a time. Chynna Phillips has described writing from a difficult personal crossroads, drawing on the recovery principle of taking life one day at a time.

Do not let anyone step all over your boundaries, your dignity, or the life God is calling you to build.
