Surprise Sunday: You Are Allowed to Receive the Goodness You Prayed For

Surprise Sunday is a weekly invitation to pause, tune in, rise higher, and welcome an unexpected moment of faith, peace, reflection, and encouragement.

Surprise Sunday: You Are Allowed to Receive the Goodness You Prayed For
Surprise Sunday invites you to tune in, rise higher, and receive the moment with faith, peace, and intention.

God does not heal us only so we can become better at surviving. He heals us so we can receive the peace, purpose, love, rest, and newness He has been preparing for us.

Beautiful souls,

sometimes the greatest surprise is not that something good arrives.

Sometimes the greatest surprise is realizing that you are finally ready to let yourself receive it.

After a difficult season, peace can feel unfamiliar.

A healthy relationship can feel unfamiliar.

A quiet home can feel unfamiliar.

Rest can feel unfamiliar.

Support can feel unfamiliar.

A new opportunity can feel unfamiliar.

When you have spent a long time surviving, your heart may become used to bracing for the next disappointment. You may begin to question anything that feels calm. You may hesitate when someone is kind. You may keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, even when there is no shoe in sight.

Beautiful soul, that response does not mean you are ungrateful.

It does not mean you lack faith.

It may simply mean you have been through enough to know that not everything that looks good has been safe.

But healing can teach us something beautiful:

You can use discernment without allowing fear to keep you from receiving what is good.

When Peace Feels Unfamiliar

There are seasons when chaos feels more familiar than calm.

You know how to respond to pressure.

You know how to keep going when everything is demanding something from you.

You know how to protect yourself when people are unclear.

You know how to carry responsibility, overthink decisions, and prepare for what could go wrong.

But what happens when life begins to soften?

What happens when you are offered rest?

What happens when a door opens?

What happens when someone shows up with consistency?

What happens when you begin to feel peace in a place where you once only felt survival?

Sometimes we do not know how to receive it.

We may feel suspicious of the blessing.

We may overanalyze the opportunity.

We may pull away from healthy love because we are afraid of being hurt again.

We may convince ourselves that we need to keep struggling in order to prove that we are strong.

But God is not asking you to remain in survival mode forever.

He is not asking you to keep punishing yourself for what you did not know before you healed.

He is not asking you to refuse every good thing simply because the past taught you to be careful.

Careful is wise.

Closed is exhausting.

There is a difference.

Every Good Gift

The goodness that finds you may not always arrive the way you expected.

Sometimes it comes as an answered prayer.

Sometimes it comes as a new opportunity.

Sometimes it comes as a person who is safe, consistent, and honest.

Sometimes it comes as clarity after a confusing season.

Sometimes it comes as the courage to leave what no longer aligns.

Sometimes it comes as a quiet morning, a peaceful home, a rested body, or the ability to enjoy your own life again.

Sometimes it comes as the realization that you are no longer who you were when the pain first found you.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
James 1:17, NIV

God is not like the shifting shadows you may have experienced in people or circumstances.

He is steady.

He is faithful.

He is not confused about your worth.

He is not asking you to earn love through exhaustion.

He is not withholding peace because you are still becoming.

Beautiful soul, you are allowed to receive what is good.

Receiving Is Not Weakness

For many of us, receiving can feel harder than giving.

We may know how to show up for everyone else.

We may know how to carry our own load.

We may know how to make a way when there seems to be no way.

But when someone wants to help us, support us, encourage us, or offer us something we have prayed for, we may hesitate.

We may feel like we have to prove we deserve it.

We may feel like we need to do more before we can accept it.

We may wonder what it will cost us later.

But receiving is not weakness.

Receiving is not naïveté.

Receiving is not losing your ability to discern.

Receiving can be an act of humility.

It can be a way of saying, “God, I trust that You can bring goodness into my life, even after what I have been through.”

You do not have to overwork in order to deserve rest.

You do not have to overexplain in order to deserve healthy love.

You do not have to prove you are healed enough in order to receive a new opportunity.

You do not have to carry everything alone in order to prove you are strong.

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”
Psalm 84:11, NIV

God can be both your sun and your shield.

He can guide you toward what is good while also protecting you with wisdom.

You do not have to choose between hope and discernment.

You can have both.

Make Room for What Is New

Sometimes the very thing we prayed for requires us to make room.

If you prayed for peace, you may have to release the habits that keep inviting chaos into your day.

If you prayed for healthy love, you may have to let go of the belief that inconsistency is something you should accept.

If you prayed for purpose, you may have to stop waiting until you feel completely ready before you take the next step.

If you prayed for rest, you may have to stop treating exhaustion like proof that you are valuable.

If you prayed for a new beginning, you may have to stop returning to the old chapter every time you become afraid.

Making room is not always easy.

It asks you to trust yourself again.

It asks you to trust God’s timing.

It asks you to believe that the life ahead of you can be different from the life behind you.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
Isaiah 43:19, NIV

God is still doing new things.

Even when your heart is cautious.

Even when your healing is still in progress.

Even when you are not sure you are ready.

The new thing may begin quietly.

It may begin with one safe decision.

One boundary.

One prayer.

One open door.

One moment where you allow yourself to believe that good things can happen to you, too.

Frequency Feature

Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) - Hillsong UNITED

Beautiful souls, today’s Frequency Feature is “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” by Hillsong UNITED.

There are seasons when God calls us beyond what feels familiar.

Beyond the safety of what we can control.
Beyond the old version of ourselves.
Beyond the fear that tells us we have to stay where we are simply because we know how to survive there.

“Oceans” is a reminder that faith does not always mean having the whole path mapped out. Sometimes it means taking the next step while trusting that God will meet you in the unknown.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.”
- Isaiah 43:2, NIV

Beautiful soul, you may be standing at the edge of a new chapter today.

Maybe it is a new opportunity.

Maybe it is a healthy kind of love.

Maybe it is the decision to release what has kept you in survival mode.

Maybe it is simply allowing yourself to believe that life can hold more than what you have already endured.

You do not need to have every answer before you move forward.

You do not need to be fearless before you trust God.

You only need to stay close enough to His voice to take the next faithful step.

“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt…”
- James 1:6, NIV

Let this song be a reminder that God is present in the deep waters, the unfamiliar places, and the moments when your footing feels uncertain.

You are not walking into the unknown alone.

“Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” by Hillsong UNITED centers on trusting God in the unknown, keeping one’s focus above the waves, and allowing faith to grow in the presence of the Savior.

A Surprise Sunday Reflection

Take a moment today and ask yourself:

What good thing have I been hesitant to receive?

Maybe it is rest.

Maybe it is help.

Maybe it is a new relationship.

Maybe it is encouragement.

Maybe it is a career opportunity.

Maybe it is joy.

Maybe it is the permission to begin again.

Then ask:

What fear has made me hold it at a distance?

Do not judge yourself for the answer.

Just be honest.

Finally, ask:

What is one small way I can make room for God’s goodness this week?

Maybe it is saying yes to support.

Maybe it is applying for the opportunity.

Maybe it is letting someone be kind to you without looking for a reason to push them away.

Maybe it is resting before your body forces you to.

Maybe it is releasing the belief that struggle is the only way you know how to live.

Beautiful soul, you do not have to keep living as though every blessing will become a burden.

You can move slowly.

You can pay attention.

You can use wisdom.

And you can still let goodness in.

Surprise Sunday Declaration

I release the belief that I must stay guarded from every good thing. I will use wisdom without surrendering to fear. I am allowed to receive rest, love, support, opportunity, and peace. God is doing a new thing in my life, and I am making room for it.
Closing Whisper
