Sacred Saturday: The Walls Fell on the Seventh Day

For six days Israel walked around Jericho in silence. On the seventh, the trumpets sounded and the walls fell. This Sacred Saturday explores holy ground, the power of silence, and the scarlet cord that led from Rahab to King David.

Sacred Saturday: The Walls Fell on the Seventh Day
Some walls God builds through you. Some walls He brings down for you.
Whisper: Some walls God builds through you. Some walls He brings down for you.

Good morning, beautiful soul.

Yesterday we stepped into the Jordan and watched the water stand still. Israel had crossed over. They were finally in the land God promised.

But the moment they arrived, they faced a wall.

Jericho was the first city in the Promised Land, and it was surrounded by massive walls. No army of former slaves and wanderers could break through them. And what God told them to do next made no military sense at all.

Take Off Your Sandals

Before the battle plan came, Joshua had an encounter. He looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword.

Joshua asked the question we all ask when we face a wall: "Are you for us or for our enemies?"

"'Neither,' he replied, 'but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.' ... The commander of the Lord's army replied, 'Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.' And Joshua did so." (Joshua 5:14-15)

Neither. God did not come to take a side. He came to take over.

And listen to those words again. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy. Forty years earlier, God spoke almost the same words to Moses at the burning bush, when the wilderness journey was just beginning.

"Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." (Exodus 3:5)

The journey began on holy ground, and it ended on holy ground. Before the breakthrough comes, God always invites us to bow.

Six Days of Silence

Then came the strategy. Seven priests carrying ram's horn trumpets would walk ahead of the ark. The people would follow. Once a day for six days, they would circle the city.

And there was one more instruction.

"But Joshua had commanded the army, 'Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!'" (Joshua 6:10)

Imagine it, beautiful soul. Thousands of people walking in total silence. The only sound was the trumpets and their footsteps. And from the top of the walls, the people of Jericho watched and wondered.

Why silence? Because what we say while we wait matters. Doubt is loud. Complaining is loud. Fear is loud. God did not want one careless word to spread through the camp before the victory came.

Some seasons are not for talking about the wall. They are for walking with God around it.

The Seventh Day

Then came the seventh day. Seven, the number of completion. The number God set apart as holy in the very first week of creation.

"On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times." (Joshua 6:15)

One time. Two. Five. Six. Nothing changed. The walls stood as tall as ever.

And then, the seventh time around, the silence broke.

"When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city." (Joshua 6:20)

No battering rams. No siege towers. Just obedience, the presence of God at the center, the sound of the trumpet, and a shout of faith.

Back on October 19, we stood on the wall with Nehemiah and refused to come down. Today we see the other side of that truth. Some walls God builds through you. Some walls He brings down for you. And the difference is not your strength. It is His word.

The Scarlet Cord

Now here is the part that will give you chills.

Not every part of Jericho was destroyed. Inside the wall lived a woman named Rahab.

"So she let them down by a rope through the window, for the house she lived in was part of the city wall." (Joshua 2:15)

Rahab had a past. Scripture calls her a prostitute. But when Israel's spies came to Jericho, she hid them and chose to trust their God. Before they left, they told her to tie a scarlet cord in her window as a sign.

"And she tied the scarlet cord in the window." (Joshua 2:21)

When the walls came down, Rahab and her whole family were saved.

But the story does not end there. Rahab married into Israel. And look where her name shows up generations later.

"Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David." (Matthew 1:5-6)

Rahab was King David's great-great-grandmother.

Do you remember Thursday, beautiful soul? Michal watched from a window and despised David's worship. But generations earlier, another woman stood at another window. Rahab's window was not a window of scorn. It was a window of faith. And from that window came the line of the king who danced before the ark, and one day, the line of Jesus Himself.

Your past does not disqualify you. A scarlet cord of faith can rewrite your whole family line.

Your Sacred Saturday Practice

This weekend, walk around your wall with God:

  1. Be silent. Stop speaking doubt over the wall you are facing. Say nothing about it that you would not want God to hear.
  2. Circle it in prayer. For the next seven days, pray once a day over that one wall.
  3. Shout before it falls. On the seventh day, thank God out loud as if the wall is already down.

Note from Eugenia

Beautiful soul, the walls in front of you are not bigger than the God walking with you. You do not have to tear them down with your own hands. You only have to follow His presence, keep walking, and trust His timing. Don't stop on six. The seventh day is coming.

"By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days. By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient." (Hebrews 11:30-31)

Frequency Feature: "Jericho" by Iniko

Beautiful soul, I could not let a week about Jericho end without this song.

"Jericho" by Iniko is a bold, cosmic anthem that has been streamed more than 200 million times on Spotify since its release in 2023. It went viral on TikTok and even sparked a dance challenge on the other side of the world. And at the heart of it is one unforgettable chant: walls come down like Jericho.

When you hear it, you can feel the earthquake rumble. The beat hits like a trumpet blast. It sounds like the seventh time around.

But here is the part I want you to hold onto. In the song, the walls fall because of strength. In Scripture, they fell because of surrender. Joshua took off his sandals. The people walked in silence. They followed the presence of God, and they waited for His word before they shouted.

"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." (James 4:10)

That is why today's Frequency Feature is "Jericho" by Iniko. Let it be your shout. Turn it up loud on this seventh day and celebrate every wall God is bringing down in your life. Just remember who brings them down.

You do not have to be the earthquake, beautiful soul. You only have to walk with the One who is.
