Follow Friday: Your Past Is Not Your Permanent Address

Your past may explain your pain, but it does not have to decide your future. This Follow Friday reflection invites you to release survival patterns, follow Jesus forward, and choose healing without passing harm on to others.

Follow Friday: Your Past Is Not Your Permanent Address
Follow Jesus forward: release the identity shaped by survival and choose the healing, truth, and purpose God is growing within you.

Beginning Whisper: I can honor what I survived without allowing it to decide who I become.

Beautiful souls,

This is for the underdogs.

For the black sheep.

For the scapegoats.

For the people who grew up feeling like they had to explain their heart, defend their intentions, or carry blame that did not belong to them.

Maybe you have felt mocked for seeing things differently. Maybe you were labeled “too much” because you asked hard questions, noticed patterns, or refused to pretend pain was normal. Maybe people tried to reduce you to your hardest season, your biggest mistake, or a story that never held the whole truth.

But hear me: your past may explain some of your pain, but it does not have to become today’s reality.

God does not ask you to deny what happened. He invites you to bring it to Him so it can become wisdom instead of a wound that keeps directing your life.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” - Isaiah 43:18-19

Pain Can Become a Path

We all transmute emotion somehow.

Pain can become prayer.

Anger can become a boundary.

Grief can become compassion.

Confusion can become a deeper commitment to truth.

That is healing.

But pain can also become projection. Hurt can become cruelty. Fear can become control. And unresolved wounds can become a reason to injure people who never caused them.

That is not healing. That is harm repeating itself through a new person.

There is a difference between someone who is lost and trying to find their way, and someone who has decided their pain gives them permission to damage anyone in sight.

We can have compassion for people who are confused without giving them unlimited access to harm us.

We can pray for them without becoming their target.

We can forgive without returning to unsafe patterns.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” - Proverbs 4:23

The Ladder of Healing

Healing does not require you to erase your history.

It requires you to stop building your future around the injury.

Every time you choose honesty over retaliation, you climb.

Every time you pause before responding from rage, you climb.

Every time you ask God to help you tell the difference between what is yours to carry and what is not, you climb.

Every time you choose rest, truth, therapy, prayer, accountability, a healthy boundary, or a new habit, you climb.

The ladder is not about proving you are better than anyone else. It is about becoming freer than the version of you that had to survive in chaos.

You do not have to solve every problem in your life today.

You do not have to convince every person who misunderstood you.

You do not have to keep reopening old wounds so other people can finally admit they were real.

You can let your growth speak.

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” - Romans 12:21

The Black Sheep’s Gift

Being the one who does not fit can feel lonely.

But sometimes the black sheep is not broken. Sometimes they are simply unwilling to keep participating in a pattern that needs to end.

The person who sees what others would rather ignore can be criticized first. The one who tells the truth may be called difficult. The one who changes may make familiar dysfunction uncomfortable.

That does not make you perfect. It does not mean every instinct is automatically right. We still need humility, reflection, wise counsel, and accountability.

But it does mean you are allowed to trust the work God is doing in you.

You are allowed to outgrow what once had access to you.

You are allowed to make a new choice.

You are allowed to be both tenderhearted and discerning.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” - Psalm 34:18

Follow What Heals

This Follow Friday, do not follow the voice that tells you to stay trapped in an old identity.

Do not follow the urge to become hard because life was hard on you.

Do not follow the people who benefit from you remaining confused, ashamed, or small.

Follow what brings you closer to God.

Follow what makes you more honest, more grounded, more compassionate, and more responsible for your own life.

Follow the path that protects your peace without asking you to lose your softness.

Your history is real.

Your pain matters.

But your future is still being written.

Beautiful soul, you may have been misunderstood, underestimated, or blamed for what you did not create.

Still, you are here.

Still, you can heal.

Still, you can rise.

And still, you can choose a life that does not repeat what hurt you.

Hold the frequency. Walk in truth. Keep becoming.

🎵 Burn the Ships - for KING & COUNTRY

Today’s Frequency Feature is Burn the Ships by for KING & COUNTRY.

Some chapters cannot be carried into the life God is calling you to build. Old shame, fear, destructive habits, unhealthy patterns, and identities rooted in survival may once have helped you cope - but they do not have to define where you go next.

“Burn the ships” is a powerful reminder to stop leaving an escape route back to what broke you. It means choosing healing even when it is uncomfortable, choosing truth even when it costs you familiarity, and trusting that God can lead you forward without asking you to return to what you have outgrown.

You do not have to have every detail of the future figured out. You only have to decide that your past will not be your permanent address.

Take the next faithful step. Release what cannot come with you. And make room for the life, peace, and purpose waiting ahead.

Hold the frequency. Walk in truth. Keep becoming.

A Note From Eugenia

To my two bright stars,

You have always given me a reason to keep moving forward.

I know there may be things that do not make sense right now. You may carry questions, hurt, or even anger that I cannot fully answer today. I will never ask you to pretend those feelings are not real.

But please know this: none of the hard parts were ever meant for your harm. Every difficult season has carried lessons, and every step forward has been rooted in love for you.

Sometimes life asks us to endure before we understand. It is not easy - and yes, sometimes we simply have to embrace the suck - but we do not have to stay there. We have made it through too much to stop believing that a better season is ahead.

Keep your hearts open. Keep learning. Keep trusting God, even when the path feels unclear.

Your dad loves you. And your Father in Heaven will never fail you.

Our winning season is on its way.

With all my love,
Dad
